Wooden Decks In South Africa
Timber decks have become the timeless fashion addition to many homes in the USA, UK and now in South Africa. It is easy to see how an attractive wooden deck creates a unique feeling of comfort. A well-planned wooden deck, stretching from an indoor dining area, through to an outdoor entertainment area, stylishly links home and garden enhancing the aura of both all year round.
Our ideal Highveld climate optimises the leisure of a timber deck. It becomes the focal point for al fresco dining, daytime relaxation, sunbathing; which naturally extend into evening sundowners, braais and parties. The ultimate elegant (and hardwearing) entertainment venue!
With timber decking, the designs and possibilities are endless. A sundeck, viewing deck, a pool-braai area, a veranda or balcony, expanding living space, resurfacing the patio, covering an inaccessible corner of the garden, beautiful pathways designed into the landscaping - whatever the desire!
A deck costs less to build than any other indoor room. Few home improvements can match a deck for maximising lifestyle enjoyment, its all-season utility and the value and beauty which it adds to a home.

A deck can be installed in countless shapes, elevations and styles. Regardless of the implementation, the natural character of the solid timber will blend seamlessly with the landscape of any garden and home.

African Decks & Wooden Flooring has a policy of sourcing and using only the best materials for any job, no matter how big or small. We highly recommend African hardwoods such as Rhodesian Teak, as they are accustomed to the harsh climatic conditions of South Africa. African Decks & Wooden Flooring can of course supply and install any other timber that a client may desire.
Our teams are all qualified and experienced carpenters. For exceptional quality, they use traditional decking techniques in constructing your wooden/timber deck. No corners are cut; the quality and durability of the finished deck is paramount.
The construction of a home deck of average size, will take approximately 5/7 working days.
African hardwoods will last for many years in the open environment; however it is always best to treat the deck from time to time. There are two traditional treatment options: Regular oiling of the deck, required approximately every 40 days; and sealing of the deck with a polyurethane based sealant, which should be re-applied approximately every 6 months. These are guide lines only as each deck will require less or more frequent treatment dependent on its positioning and exposure to the elements. Such treatment will make the wood’s natural deep shine come forth and extends the life of the surface.
